Lavender Fields Forever
Vian Borchert
Synopsis of the piece / Artwork Statement:
“Lavender Fields Forever” is a painting that embodies the feelings of joy and rejuvenation achieved through the love for nature and its abundant beauty and endless bounty that it bestows upon humanity.
In this painting, I delved into the color purple with all its hues. The lavender color has been especially meaningful to me during Covid times since I took on interest in gardening during quarantine by planting lavender in my garden. I have found the plant to be resilient, poignant, beautifully gorgeous in its subdued purple hues and grayish blue green stems and leaves. Moreover, the plant has therapeutic healing benefits and uplifting aspects through its aroma making it a great source of relaxation in stressful times. I have always been an avid lover of nature, and I grew up admiring all plants, especially lavender. For me, the lavender smell and sight bring back sweet memories of good times along with a sense of calmness and peace. In this painting, my intention was to have a bird’s eye view of the fields as if I am flying above them. This action also represents my free spirited nature that is true to my identity as an artist. The title of the artwork “Lavender Fields Forever” takes on a reminiscent approach to feel-good songs by The Beatles such as “Strawberry Fields Forever”. Overall, the painting is a celebration of floral blooms through the arts.
